• Key Characteristics: It is a colorless, volatile liquid at room temperature with an ether-like odor. Soluble in most organic solvents such as water, ethanol, ether, acetone, and benzene. Partially miscible with water at room temperature. Features low toxicity, low boiling point, and good fluidity.

II. Applications

1. Used in the synthesis of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), which is further used to produce spandex elastic fibers.
2. Serves as an excellent solvent.
3. Acts as a raw material for organic synthesis, used in the production of tetrahydrothiophene, 1,4-dichloroethane, 2,3-dichlorotetrahydrofuran, valerolactone, butyrolactone, pyrrolidone, etc., with wide applications in the pharmaceutical field.
4. Used as a chromatographic solvent (gel permeation chromatography), for natural gas odorization, as an acetylene extraction solvent, and as a light stabilizer for polymer materials.
