Acetaminophen, with the molecular formula C8H9NO2, is usually a white crystalline powder. It has antipyretic and analgesic effects and is used for treating colds and fevers, joint pain, neuralgia, migraines, cancer pain, and postoperative pain relief, etc. It is prepared by reducing sodium p-nitrophenol to para-aminophen and then acylating it.

Prismatic crystals obtained from ethanol. Melting point 169-171℃, relative density 1.293(21/4℃). It is soluble in ethanol, acetone and hot water, slightly soluble in water, and insoluble in petroleum ether and benzene. Odorless and bitter in taste. The pH value of the saturated aqueous solution is 5.5 to 6.5.
