Potassium ferrocyanide is stable in air and loses its crystalline water when heated to 100 ℃, becoming a hygroscopic white powder. At high temperatures, nitrogen is released and potassium cyanide and ferric carbide are generated. Heating with dilute sulfuric acid produces hydrogen cyanide, ferrous sulfate, and potassium sulfate. Heating with concentrated sulfuric acid produces ferrous sulfate, ammonium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and releases carbon monoxide. Reacts with ferrous salt solution to generate Prussian blue. When encountering silver salt, copper salt or zinc salt solutions, corresponding ferrocyanide precipitates of silver, copper or zinc are generated.
