Physical Properties 

• Appearance: Colorless cubic crystals or white powder. When exposed to air, it gradually loses ammonia and turns into ammonium bicarbonate.
• Odor: Has an ammonia - like odor.
• molecular formula：（NH4）2CO3•H2O 
• Solubility: Highly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is alkaline. Slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone and diethyl ether.
• Melting Point: No fixed melting point under normal pressure. Decomposes into ammonia, carbon dioxide and water when the temperature exceeds 58℃.

• A white or colorless, semi-transparent hard block or powder composed of ammonium bicarbonate and hydroxylammonium carbamate. It has a pungent ammonium smell and gradually turns into ammonium bicarbonate when exposed to the air. Heat to 550℃ to decompose ammonium and carbon dioxide. It is soluble in water but decomposes in hot water. It is insoluble in concentrated ammonia water and ethanol.

Applications 

• In Agriculture: Used as a fertilizer, providing nitrogen and carbon nutrients for crops.
• In the Chemical Industry: A raw material for preparing certain ammonium salts (e.g., ammonium nitrate, ammonium chloride), alkaloids, and drugs.
• In the Food Industry: Serves as a food additive and leavening agent. In baked goods, it decomposes upon heating to release carbon dioxide, making the food expand and soften.
• In Laboratories: Frequently used as an analytical reagent to precipitate certain metal ions.
