Uses: Methyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-D-α-galactopyranoside is an important organic synthetic intermediate. This product will hydrolyze into 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-α-D-galactopyranoside in acidic conditions, the hydrolysis product is widely used in the synthesis of polysaccharides, glycoconjugates, molecular probes, drug intermediates and so on.

Reacting with acetic anhydride, it can be converted into 1,6-di-O-acetyl-,2,3,4-tri-O-benzyl-D-α-galactopyranoside and 1-O-acetyl-2,3 4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-D-α-galactopyranoside Undersuitable reaction conditions .

It can be conveniently converted into 2,3,4,6-tetra-O- benzyl-α-D-galactosyl fluoride, chloride,bromide,iodide.
