Fatty acid methyl ester is a compound, usually obtained by the reaction of fatty acids with methanol. It has the following properties:
Physical properties: Fatty acid methyl esters are usually colorless to slightly yellow liquids with a distinctive odor.

Fatty acid methyl esters have a wide range of application fields:
Industrial applications: Fatty acid methyl esters can be used as lubricants, plastic additives, solvents, surfactants, etc.
The preparation methods of fatty acid methyl esters usually include acid catalysis and base catalysis. In the acid catalysis method, fatty acids and methanol react under acidic conditions to form fatty acid methyl esters. In the alkaline catalysis method, fatty acids and methanol react under alkaline conditions to form fatty acid salts, and then fatty acid methyl esters are obtained through acidification reactions.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes: Fatty acid methyl esters are irritating and may cause irritation and discomfort to the skin and eyes. Appropriate protective measures should be taken.
