It is a semi-synthetic third generation cephalosporin, similar to other third generation cephalosporins, with a wider range of reactions against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The difference is that it is effective against P. aeruginosa, but is less resistant to gram-positive bacteria, so it is not used for this infection.
