• Physical and Chemical Properties:
  • State: White to off-white powder, odorless or with a slight characteristic odor, tasteless or with a special smell, hygroscopic.
  • Density (g/mL, 25°C): 1.23 - 1.29.
  • Melting Point (°C): 225.
  • Solubility: Soluble in water, aqueous chlorine-containing solvents, ethanol, acids, nitroalkanes and low-molecular-weight fatty acids, etc.; insoluble in acetone. It is compatible with most inorganic salts and many resins.
• Applications:
  • It has extensive applications in medicine and is one of the three major pharmaceutical excipients advocated internationally. The most widely used is as a binder for tablets and granules.
  • PVP can also be used as a disintegrant for capsules, a detackifier and wetting agent for eye drops, a solubilizer for injections, and a dispersant for liquid preparations, as well as a stabilizer for enzymes and heat-sensitive drugs.
  • Povidone can also be combined with iodine to form PVP-I disinfectant.
  • PVP can also be used as a low-temperature preservative in medicine, and there are hundreds of drugs that use PVP products as excipients.
