PropertiesWhite acicular crystals or powder with a bitter taste. Melting point is 129–131°C. Soluble in 1mL of water, 1.5mL of alcohol, and 100mL of glycerol; insoluble in ether.

Preparation methodObtained by forming a salt from nicotinic acid and ammonia water, followed by dehydration.

UsesIt is an essential nutrient for mammals. Its water solubility is better than that of nicotinic acid, but it easily forms a complex with vitamin C and clumps. The applicable dosage is 30–80mg/kg.
